Soaring

This past Saturday, the 9th was my birthday as some of you may already know. As a birthday gift I was given one Glider Introductory Flight. A glider is a plane with no engine, but can steer it's directions, and relies on thermals to lift the plane higher to make the flight longer. I loved this experience, it was wicked cool! I working my parents to let me take lessons and once I pass lessons I could get my license! During my flight I was given the basics on flying the plane, and actually flew it for awhile. Here are some photos:

Here my plane is about to be towed up into the air

I'm in the plane following. There is attaching the two planes and eventually I pulled the lever to release the rope.

At this point I'm probably flying the plane. I'm in the front seat.

This is a photo I took from up in the air. I could see Mt. Wachusett, Worcester, Boston, and more

Fun Factoids

Really bored, and for some reason wide awake, I decided to write a short, simple, yet educational, post. I hope that all of whom wander through my blog enjoy these fun factoids!

  1. Coffee beans aren't beans they're fruit pits; making coffee the most consumed fruit in America
  2. The whole "5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays, 5 Sundays in this October happens once every 823 years" is a myth. That happens at least once each year. And the next time it will happen in October is 2021, which I'm pretty positive that that's not 823 years away.
  3. The average American drinks 3.4 cups of coffee a day
  4. People who drink coffee are less likely to commit suicide
  5. 7 Up's original name was Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda
  6. The highest point in Pennsylvania is lower than the lowest point in Colorado
  7. 111,111,111 x 111,111,111= 12,345,678,987,654,321
  8. Clans long ago that wanted to get rid of their unwanted people without killing them, burned down their house. Hence "being fired".
  9. The average number of hours a child spends at school a year: 900
The average number of hours a child spends watching TV a year: 1500
  10. On average 100 people choke on ball-point pens a year
  11. In 2004, a lab in Texas received a $6 million grant to breed radioactive armadillos for possible use in warfare
  12. Four-leaf clovers are created by the same mutation that causes conjoined twins
  13. Martin Luther King Jr. lip-synced most of his famous "I Have a Dream" speech
  14. The tomato has been brought back from the verge of extinction at least 3 times since it was first domesticated
  15. Narwhals can crawl across dry land for distances up to 50 yards (150 feet)
And those were some riveting new facts that I bet you didn't know! Which one was your favorite?

TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY!
(I thought that might be important to add too)

A Near Death Experience

 (Insert Photo of Chickadee Here)

What?! When?! How?! Those are the questions you are probably asking right now, and then are wondering what this picture of a chickadee has to do with a near death experience right? Well let me tell you of a story that occurred 8 days ago...

On the brisk, autumn morning of September 26th I clome (wink wink) out of my bed and aimlessly walked down the stairs. I plopped my body on the couch and pressed the "On" button on my TV remote. I dialled a few numbers and just barely watched my show with my 1/3 open eyes. Soon enough time wallowed away and other people had also successfully clome out of bed and plopped themselves on a couch to watch TV. Well while watching TV around 8:30ish a loud thud penetrated the mind of moi and I thought nothing of it at first but instinctively turned my head around. What do I see lying belly-side-up on my deck? A chickadee! (Okay you should be able to put two and two together now). I get up in a sheer state of shock watching this poor helpless little bird hyperventilate. I then in a heartbeat open the slider-door and close the screen door behind me. Now crouched down a mere 3 inches away from this poor little guy, I vigorously try to conceptualize a way to prop the bird upright. I then power walk down the deck stairs and collect two pretty crunchy looking leaves and go over to the chickadee and stand him upright. At that moment I felt pretty good, but I wasn't done saving this little bird. Obviously something was still wrong with the bird because it let me sit wicked close to it. I slowly reach my hand out and with my index finger stroke the back of the bird's head. The soft sensation, felt like a soft, silky piece of satin. The beak of this bird has now been open for roughly 5 minutes (the elapsed so far). I could tell it was still hyperventilating. Suddenly the bird motioned it's head to the right, then to the left and was trying to fathom where it was. In the next few moments I knew it was going to be okay, and I was right. It flew away a slim 6 inches away from me. I stood up and as I was walking inside I heard a chirp. I turned around and it was the same chickadee on the bird-feeder thanking me. After that event I felt overly good about myself, I mean who wouldn't right? It goes to show, um, well I don't know. Today I found two four-leafed clovers.

Place of the Week!

I'm sorry, I really am. I will have to admit I know I have been slacking. I would like to blame it on my bad sense of procrastination, but really I know following my psychological intuition it's my lame motivation to blame. I hope, not promise, to post more oftener. Rather than posting and "excuse post" every 7 days. You know what I mean? Well the new winner of Place of the Week is,...........................Apoera, Suriname. Come back next week for a new place and a new winner! Plus guess who turns x-amount-of-years in 6 days (October 9th)?!
