Place of the Week!

Okay, Yes, I Fail

Let's pretend this is the,...1,...2,...3,...4,...5,...6th post of the week why don't we? Okay, now that we have that lie, psh what? Let's try that again; Okay, now that we have that out of the way I feel better. What have I been doing this week, that I can't publish a post everyday? Well, uh, funny you should ask, because I was just personally thinking about this today (not really, that's a lie, it's just a way to enter what I'm trying to get to). I have already written a post on Monday, so I don't have to explain that day, but here goes Tuesday. It rained. Trust me, it RAINED. Full out downpoured. I wasn't pleased because of the fact I was running a race tonight. Around 2ish (pm) my dad picked me up and drove me to his house. I schlepped around the house and pretty much did nothing until around 5:15pm I had half a peanut butter sandwich to have something in me before my race. My dad had the other half for he was also running to, so was my step-mom, Trina. --Fast Forward-- It's now moments before the race and I'm warming up and stretching. Guess what,...correct! It's still raining! You can only imagine my ecstatic energy pumping through my frigid body. Then the words are said, "On your marks, get set,...GO!" I'm off running. While running through the streets of Lowell I notice two things: one being I'm beating my dad (a first), and two, I think the rain was absorbing the car emissions, which is like a god sent. Half way to through the race a really bad stomach ache forms into a cramp. At first I didn't know what it was, it most certainly didn't feel like cramp. I thought maybe it's my rain-drenched shirt pressing down on my shirt, so I lift my shirt so no more pressure is applied to my hurting core. I keep pressing on, slowly falling back. I keep on thinking that this could've been my first sub-20 minute race. The race is now close to over, and then a race director pointing which way to go for newbies says, "Let's go Mike!" Then a raging fury engulfs in me. This is my dad that he is cheering on! I thought this was going to be the night I was finally going to beat him! I'm mad now. This is a time, where if it was a cartoon my hair would be on fire and steem would be bursting out of my ears. I'm now a mere 200 feet from the finish line and I start pressing it. I see the clock and I was not going to let myself run a 22+ minute 5k (3.1 miles). I'm sprinting and sprinting and the race is finally over! I crossed at around 21:45 (7:03 miles....that's fast). I'll take it. --Fast Forward-- I'm now entering the restaurant bar that is the gathering place for all the runners of this race before and after the race. Prior entering the restaurant I changed into dry, clean clothes compared to my wet, soggy clothes I was running in. Trina had already claimed a table with her dad for all of us. There, an orange soda was awaiting me. That night I received a Miley award for my new PR (personal record), ate a buffalo chicken wrap, drank another orange soda, and congratulated my dad and Trina for getting a Golden Miley for completing the race series, and congratulating Trina for getting a plaque for being the top female runner in her age group. When I got home that night I was tired, but not too tired because I still took a shower. After my shower I was disapponted because I was missing the show Albino Murderers. Okay I know what you're thinking. You're probably thinking waht is wrong with this kid? Truth is, nothing is wrong with me, I am just an avid learner absorbing new information all the time, plus the topic really interested me. Well I'm now sick of writing right now, but I still have more to say. Maybe I will write later today if I'm not too busy (or lazy that is :) ). I'm going to take a shower now because I really feel disgusting and weaty from my run this morning.

Southeast Asia Water Festival Plus Some

Get this, I log onto my laptop and go to my blog. And what do I realize? I have to write a post! Yes, I have blown off the whole day. What a shame. Oh well, I suppose I should post about what I really came here to post about, not to ramble about my guilt. Well, on Saturday, as in the day two days ago, I went to a Southeast Asia Water Festival. Honestly, I have no idea really what was so 'watery' about it. Other than the river next to the festival, and the dragonboat races that took place in the river, there wasn't much water. So with my dad and sister we are driving along Vandenberg Esplanade in Lowell, MA and we are seeing cars everywhere, it's not looking good. Luckily we pull into a parking area and find a parking spot, a miracle in itself. We hop out of the car and meticulously cross the street, hop over the steel gurters, and cross over another street. We walk a little ways before hitting the initial wall of Southeast Asian culture. First walking in we see almost everyone with a drink in a white container. That container, a coconut, that drink, coconut water (liquid inside a coconut [coconut meat+ coconut water= coconut milk]). So I tell my dad I want one of those. Then snaps my sister 'I thought you didn't like coconut.' Well I do now! ......NEWS FLASH...... It's getting late and I need to wrap this whole excuse of a post up so here goes a pathetic summary of the rest of the day.

  • Got my coconut, plus one for dad
  • Tasted funky along with coconut meat
  • Threw them away
  • Got meat on a stick (wicked good)
  • Watched part of a Asian dance
  • Saw lots of Jesus reach outs in a Buddhist culture area
  • Got yummy shave ice with exotic fruit in bottom and sweetened condensed milk quirted on top.
  • Turned around
  • Went back to car
  • Went home
  • Left to go and get Emily (neighborly friend)
  • My dad, Lizzie, Emily and I all go to the Spinners game
  • Couldn't find row Z when the normal rows end at U
  • Too big for Swampland (pish posh)
  • Big Dig Ice-Cream
  • Front row seats (so front row that you aren't even allowed to stand up, for the fear of being hit.
  • Woman is hit with baseball by Swampland
  • Left game
  • Went to Cote's house
  • Man Hunt
  • Rejected by my age kids (all girls no boys)
  • Went home
  • Fell asleep
Well there you have it, the sum up of the rest of the day. I wish I could've written more, but sadly I don't have time on my side, and two I'm lazy! Yikes, 12 minutes to spare!

Here's my goal for the week: I plan to post every single day of the week, even try to double post a couple of times this week! Don't believe me? Just keep up with the blog if you can! Place of the Week!

Uhhhhh, it's not Monday is it? Well if it is let's just ignore that fact and announce the new POTW, shall we? Okay then, the new Place of the Week is,.................Boston and Chatham, Massachusetts, United States of America! Congratulations Boston and Chatham (pronounced Chat-Um) you both are this weeks's winner! Not only are you both the 53rd winner of the Place of the Week, you represent the marking of the 200th post on my blog! I can't believe I have reached this milestone! Boston is probably my favorite city in the USA, and Chatham is my 2nd fave Cape cod town after my beach house residing town, Orleans (which was a previous winner). I'm not sure yet but I think I might use the new program to make my blog into a book! Well that's all for now, come back next week for a new place and a new winner! And HAPPY 200th POST!!!

There Go My Nachos.

This was a bad day for me,...it was possibly one of the worst. It all started with baking a simple batch of nachos. I had turned my back on the oven (15 years old) for a couple of minutes to ask IM my mom how long are the nachos supposed to be in for. She said keep the oven cracked, and watch until the cheese starts to bubble. When I returned to the oven I could smell something burning. I'm like oh crap, there goes my lunch. At first I thought it would be a little black and I would have to deal, but when I opened that oven door, the flames started to lick the air outside the oven. The nachos are now blazing in a thick coat of fire all the way from the sheet pan to the ceiling of the oven. I immediately close the oven door and turn off the oven, and go and tell my mom. She told me to do what I had already done. But then she tells me to go get the fire extinguisher, but someone has moved the fire extinguisher and I am started to flip to panic mode. I go down to the basement to go look for now when my sister comes down and tells me the house is really filling with smoke so I tell my mom (now on the phone) and I ask do I call 9-1-1? She says yes. So now I'm trying to dial 9-1-1 and my mind has shut down, I am typing in 9-7-7, 9-7-1, etc. I get it after about ten seconds. The operator picks up and I spew out all of my information on where I live, what happened, who's with me, how old I am, what's my name,...everything. I open the doors (I know to contain the fire and to try to seal off any oxygen going to the fire) to let my cats have an exit if then needed one. I am in the front yard when the EMT arrives, shortly followed by two fire trucks, and two police cruisers. Then get their stuff on, which to me took ages, and marched inside and soon came out to grab an carbon dioxide chemical extinguisher for fires. They fire men soon tell my sister and I the fire is out, and they turned on a fan sucking all the blackish-grey smoke out of my house. About a half an hour after I called the 9-1-1 operator my mom arrives. She assures me that I did nothing wrong, and I have handled the situation very good. All I am thinking to myself is 'is my house going to burn down?' 'are my cats okay?' 'are all of our priceless memories going to burn away?'. I almost start to cry, but I don't. The firemen soon come out with our charred oven and tell us we are going to need a new stove (which wasn't bad because my mom kept saying we needed one). They also pull out the singed nachos I tried to make. Eventually after a time-lapse of 1 hour the fire men, police man and woman leave, and so do the EMTs. The two critical things that saved my house were two things: One being the show DC Cupcakes. For some reason I was watching that show and it was the episode where they were baking for the firemen, at the fire house, with fire men. And someone's cupcakes caught on fire in the oven, and the fire man said to close the oven door and turn off the stove. That was one key element to know, and, Two, those school assemblies with the fire men did come in handy. I did know what to do and not to freak out. I am now very thankful for all the hard working firemen and women who risk their lives for ours. When we finally entered our house, we were blasted with the scent of smoke and saw the counter tops and floor laden with a decent layer of ash. I almost burned my house down! ME! But everyone keeps telling me, even the fire men, it was one of those freak accidents that happen. Now do you understand why this was possibly one of my worst days yet?
