XXI Olympics

The Olympics a time for nations to get a competitive and to become friends for a change. The 21st Olympics, hosted in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, are currently in play. Last night I was determined to watch the complete Opening Ceremonies, and I did, sure I dozed off a little bit, but I made it, from 8pm to 12:30am. Here I am now a little over 8hrs later blogging. Before I start the details of the Opening Ceremony I would like to take a moment, and pay my dues to the Republic of Georgia's 21 yr. old, luger Nodar Kumaritashvili, who tragically lost his life after a fatal mishap where he flew off the track into an unpadded steel pole. It all started off listing all of the previous Winter Olympics ending with of course Vancouver. Soon entering the four first nations of the west. They all preformed a wonderful, traditional dance, welcoming all of the 80+ countries. Once done with their magnificent preformance, the Parade of Nations began. Starting with Greece, in honor of the first Olympic Games, and ending with Canada, the host site. In between there was the participating countries in alphabetical order. Later on we had two fine musicians, Nelly Furtado and Bryan Adams sing Bang The Drums. An outstanding preformance if you ask me. After that we were given a preformance of the landscape and the people of the north. It was really really cool. The big projection screens were amazing. The detail and the believability was incredible. The Canadians really out-did themselves this year. Time elapsed andd then came the Olympic Cauldron lighting. The final stop for the Olympic torch. Wayne Gretzgy a Canadian hockey prodigy, was given the honor as the one to light the Cauldron. One problem though one of the Olympic Cauldrons was not working, so Wayne Gretzgy was sent en route to another Cauldron downtown near the waterfront. All in all this was an awesome way to kick-off the 21st Olympics! Well go everyone in the U.S.A., and good luck to everyone else!
